Sequence and LucidLink
LucidLink alternative for video teams
Sequence is a LucidLink alternative that combines storage, editing, and review in one browser project. Shuttle gives Mac users access to project files in Finder.
From a shared Filespace to a shared project
LucidLink supplies a Filespace for a separate nonlinear editor (NLE), with a review tool alongside it to share cuts. Sequence keeps storage, browser editing, and review in one project. Upload footage, edit with your team, and publish a screening for feedback without mounting a drive first.
Keep Finder access with Shuttle
Shuttle mounts a Sequence project at /Volumes/SequenceProjects/ on your Mac. You can add footage through Finder and open project files in other applications. Its disk cache keeps downloaded media locally, and prefetching reads footage ahead of playback. Shuttle is the closer comparison to a mounted Filespace; the browser editor does not require a mount.
Choose the media workflow your team needs
LucidLink supports mounted media access on macOS, Windows, and Linux. Shuttle is macOS only. Editors on Windows can upload and edit in Sequence through a supported browser, but they do not get a Shuttle-mounted drive. If your workflow depends on a shared drive across several operating systems, account for that difference before moving media.
Compare the workflow
| Workflow | LucidLink | Sequence |
|---|---|---|
| Workflow stack | LucidLink Filespace + a separate nonlinear editor (NLE) + a review tool. | Storage, browser editing, and review in one project. |
| Shared media | Filespace accessed through a mounted drive. | Cloud project media accessed in the browser or through Shuttle on Mac. |
| Editing | Feeds the desktop editor your team chooses. | Includes a browser editor and shared timelines. |
| Review | Use a separate review tool to share cuts and collect feedback. | Publish screenings from the project so reviewers can watch and comment. |
| Local access | Desktop clients for macOS, Windows, and Linux. | Shuttle mounted drives on macOS; supported browsers on other desktop platforms. |
| Caching | On-demand streaming and a configurable local cache. | Shuttle caches media on disk and prefetches footage for playback. |
| Access management | Filespace permissions govern access to shared storage. | Workspace and project roles govern access to project media and editing. |

Check the fit before switching
- Shuttle is macOS only. Browser access on Windows does not provide a mounted drive for Windows applications.
- Moving media does not move an existing edit. Sequence cannot yet import timelines from other editors.
- Sequence's browser editor needs an internet connection. Evaluate media access and playback with your own footage and connection.
- If you want to keep your current editor and only change storage, test Shuttle's mounted-file workflow separately from Sequence's browser editing workflow.
Evaluate a project before moving your library
- Choose representative footage from a new project and upload it to Sequence. Keep the originals and your existing Filespace during evaluation.
- Invite collaborators with the appropriate project roles and check that they can find and edit the media in the browser.
- On Mac, install Shuttle, mount the project, and test opening the files in the desktop applications your team uses.
- Review cache behavior, connection requirements, storage capacity, and usage charges before moving a larger production.
Common questions
Is Sequence a LucidLink alternative?
Yes. Sequence is a LucidLink alternative for teams that want storage, editing, and review in one browser project. Shuttle provides mounted project access on macOS only. Sequence cannot yet import timelines from other editors, so moving media does not transfer an existing edit.
Can I use Sequence storage with my existing desktop editor?
On macOS, Shuttle mounts project files so other applications can access them. Test the particular application and media workflow you need. Access to source media does not mean you can import that application's timeline into the Sequence editor.
Do I need to download every file before editing in Sequence?
The browser editor works with media in the cloud project. For local access on Mac, Shuttle downloads and caches media as it is read, with prefetching for playback, instead of requiring a full library sync first.
Does Shuttle work on Windows or Linux?
Shuttle is macOS only today. On other supported desktop platforms, use Sequence in the browser for uploading media and editing; there is no Shuttle-mounted drive on Windows or Linux.
